Does Sudbury need another supermarket?

Sainsbury’s is proposing a new store to serve Sudbury and Great Cornard. Their plans are for the now empty brownfield site of the former mat and rug manufacturer, Williams Arms on Cornard Road. It’s a large area and certainly needs to be utilised, but is another supermarket the best use? What about housing as originally proposed? Or even, as had been suggested, an athletics track and sports centre? What do you think?

The Sudbury Society is organising a town meeting for you to express your opinions. Representatives from Sainsbury’s will be there and it is expected that councillors for Sudbury Town Council and Babergh District Council will also be there, along with representatives from the other supermarkets in town.

So, if you are a resident, business owner, shopkeeper or market trader, do come and have your say. There’ll be a show of hands for and against Sainsbury’s proposals to gauge public opinion.

The meeting is at the Town Hall on Friday 16 July at 7pm.
