Christmas Supper 4th december - Review
PARTYING STARTED EARLY! Friday 4th December, Diana Clifford and Maria and Peter Mills descended on the Town Hall kitchen and function room to prepare for the Sudbury Society’s annual Christmas party. It was a new venue for the Society and was certainly grand.
The Events Committee had decided that bread and cheese had had its day, so roast pork with apple sauce and ham with salad and new potatoes were on the menu with a choice of exotic puddings (or cheese!) to follow. Somehow everything got done in time; tables decorated by Heather Coltman looked lovely, soft carols playing, quizzes prepared, raffle prizes laid out. By seven o’clock the first of the 70 odd members and friends were arriving. People bought their glasses (or bottles) of wine and the evening was under way.
Diana called us table by table to get the food and then in reverse order for the puds. It was all very delicious. Diana and her team worked very hard and it was a great success. While we were eating Peter compered the Quiz. As often happens first thoughts (correct) were discarded in favour of second or third (wrong) so of course some scores were lower than they should have been but it was all good fun. Finally came the raffle with people carrying off some very good and seasonal prizes. Our Chairman, Nick Hallidie thanked all involved for their hard work and wished everyone Happy Christmas and healthy New Year. Proceedings ended at about 10.30 with coats donned and ‘coaches’ summoned. All in all a very good evening.
P.S. Things might not have gone so smoothly if a major power failure just over the road had extended to the North side of the Market Square: it doesn’t bear thinking about, except how very lucky we were!
