Old Market Place and Siam Gardens

Now that it is finished local people can judge the impact of the recent revamp of Old Market Place. We think it represents a great improvement of this shabby and run-down part of the Conservation Area, although doubtless some townspeople will say it was all a waste of money. The work was carried out by the Sudbury Market Town Partnership using funds from the East of England Development Agency. Critics might note that the money was allocated for this particular project and could not have been used for any other purpose in the town; if the funds had not come to Sudbury for this project the money would have gone elsewhere to another town in East Anglia. The Partnership has now secured further funding to landscape Siam Gardens in Gaol Lane- another area badly in need of a face lift. (Work is now well under way on the construction work although the final planting will have to wait until the Autumn.)
